Brenham High School
The Magnolia Bulldogs punched their ticket to the 2017 Texas High School Football State Playoffs last Friday night with a 35-28 win over the Brenham Cubs.
The Cubs started the game with a touchdown run to take a 0-7 lead. The Bulldogs marched down the field on their following possession and scored on a touchdown pass from QB Reese Mason to WR Mike Woods. Brenham ended the 1st quarter with a long touchdown pass to take a 7-14 lead into the second quarter.
The Cub lead would not last long as the Bulldogs scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-14 lead into halftime. Two of the scores came from Reese Mason touchdown passes to WR Ben Renfro. The third score was an interception returned for a touchdown by OLB/Safety Caleb Wall.
Brenham would capitalize on a Magnolia interception and ran for the only score of the third quarter. Headed into the fourth quarter, the score was 28-21.
Half way through the fourth quarter, the Cubs would score on long touchdown run to tie the game. Their lead would not last for long as the Bulldogs would score on the third touchdown pass to Ben Renfro from Reese Mason of the game less that 20 seconds later. That brought the score to 35-28. The Magnolia defense forced Brenham to punt of their next possession and the Bulldog offense was able to kneel the ball to seal the victory.
The Bulldogs will play the Cedar Park Timberwolves on Friday 10/17 at 7:30pm at Bastrop Memorial Stadium in Bastrop, TX.
