The Magnolia Bulldogs improved to 3-1 on the season with a shoot out victory over the Tomball Cougars on Friday night. Both teams traded scores in the first half and went into the locker room tied at 21.
The third quarter saw Tomball score 10 points to take a 21-31 lead. The fourth quarter was an offensive explosion by both teams. Magnolia started by scoring within the first 20 seconds of the fourth quarter. Tomball responded with a field goal to push the score to 28-34. The two teams would score on their next two possessions and take the score to 42-49. Magnolia would get a stop on defense and the offense would tie the game at 49 with 2 minutes left in the game. Tomball would fumble on their next possession and the Bulldogs immediately took advantage and scored the go ahead touchdown to take the lead 56-49 with 1:16 left in the game. The Bulldog defense would stop Tomball’s late surge to seal the victory.
Magnolia QB Reese Mason was responsible for all 8 Bulldog touchdowns. He threw 6 TD passes and ran for 2 more scores. Sophomore WR Ben Renfro caught three TD passes and Mike Woods had 2 TD catches of his own. Senior WR Colton Caycedo also caught a TD pass.
The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 and 2-0 in district play. They will take on the Huntsville Hornets next Friday 10/13 in Huntsville.
